How We Use Your Support

Supporting the Illusion Horror Con

Illusion Horror Con is built around the people who create, run, and participate in our community. 

Patreon, memberships, donations, sponsorships, and other income help keep the convention accessible and give us the resources to make each year better than the last.

We don't treat community support as profit. 

After unavoidable costs and fees, we reinvest our income into Creators, Community, and Infrastructure.

Creators

A portion of our income goes directly toward supporting the people who make IHC possible.

This can include:

• Honoraria and support for Guests, Panellists, and Workshop Leaders

• Support for Game Masters and scenario creators

• Contributions toward commissioned artwork, writing, editing, and other creative work

• Prizes, grants, or other forms of creator support

• Support for projects developed through or alongside IHC

Where we can provide financial support, we want it to reach the people actually creating the content that makes our community what it is.

Community

IHC is more than the convention weekend. 

We want to support an ongoing community around horror tabletop gaming and the people who create it.

Community funding can therefore support:

• Free or low-cost convention programming

• Community events and collaborations

• The IHC Magazine and other editorial projects

• Promotional opportunities for independent creators

• Accessibility initiatives

• Community resources and educational material

• Future events and projects developed with our community

Our aim is to keep as much of what we produce available to the community as possible rather than putting everything behind a paywall.

Infrastructure

Running IHC requires considerably more than the hours spent at the convention itself. 

Our infrastructure fund lets us maintain the tools and equipment needed to produce the event and related projects.

This includes things such as:

• Website and hosting costs

• Streaming and video production

• Software and subscriptions

• Graphic design and production tools

• Recording and audio equipment

• Convention administration

• Promotional materials

• Other equipment and services required to run IHC

This is our investment pot: money that goes back into the machinery of IHC so that we can continue producing better events and supporting more creators.

Our Guiding Principle

Wherever possible, money that comes into IHC should go back into IHC and its community.

We don't want support to simply disappear into general operating costs. 

We want supporters to know that their contributions help us create opportunities, improve production quality, maintain our infrastructure, and build future events.

As IHC grows, our priorities may change. 

We will stay transparent about how we use our income and adjust our support model as the community's needs change.

A Few Principles We Follow

• The community comes first.
  Our goal is to create opportunities and experiences for the wider horror RPG community, not to maximise revenue.

• Creators should be supported.
  The people who make games, write articles, run sessions, host panels, and produce other creative work are central to IHC.

• Infrastructure is an investment.
  Equipment, software, websites, streaming, and production resources allow us to do more in the future.

• Accessibility matters.
  We want financial support to help keep participation in IHC as accessible as possible.

• Support should create more support.
  When our resources allow it, we want to use them to create opportunities for other independent creators and community projects.

• Nobody should have to buy their way into the community.
  Supporting IHC may provide additional ways to participate, but the core community and convention should remain accessible independently of financial support.

• A Safe Space for Horror.
  We believe in communication and respecting boundaries. Our games and events promote safe gaming, inclusivity, and diversity, supported by several tools for players and GMs. If something doesn't feel right, our team is here to help.
